Mitchell Newman, Principle

Mitch Newman started walking jobsites at the age of six with his father who was also a builder. He did every back breaking job from cleaning construction debris to shoveling off snow-covered roofs. Before becoming a developer, Mitch became a physician. Mitch will tell you that managing construction and carrying for patients in the hospital have similarities. Both require unerring attention to detail and a personal touch. Feeling good about one’s home is essential to one’s well being.

Mitch also led Thirsty Theater in Chicago as its Artistic Director. In his various careers, he has worked in Kenya in a Regional Hospital, on the Yankton Sioux Reservation, and in New Orleans after the Katrina disaster. His various experiences account for his passion for design, his precision in detail, and his desire to operate his company creatively and with integrity.

Kapan Shipman, Designer

Designer Kapan Shipman is a graduate of The Harrington Institute of Interior Design in Chicago. She has been designing condominiums and private residences for a number of years. Her philosophy, which guides all her work for Stratagem, is that one’s living environment can have an enormous impact on one’s well-being. From the first step of space planning to the placement of final details, Kapan always has the homeowners in mind.

With her love of all design and her keen observations on style, Kapan draws inspiration from fashion, nature, even pop culture. Whatever the budget, her goal is to always create unique living spaces that seamlessly blend beauty with functionality.
